Hello Professional Networkers,
I have listened to plenty of business presentations, whether they were in hotel rooms, over the phone, on an online Webinar, or a one-on-one lunch meeting. A few of them I would call Impactful, the majority—‘middle-of-the-pack’, and the remainder…lets just say they could use some more practice and thought. The most important presentation is the very first one made for your prospects to experience and that is where the future of your business is made or broken.
These are the 5 phrases that will instantly discredit your presentation to GOOD prospects, AND they will attract the WRONG type of people into your business…
1. “This Business is Easy.” Anybody can do it…”in a matter of months you’ll be making thousands.” -We all know this is NOT true, and to mislead someone like that is just irresponsible…
2. “You Will make money right away.” “In fact, you should be able to pay for your product and make a few hundred your first month.” -Again, most likely this statement is never the case, it takes a steady and consistent effort to really build a substantial business…
3. “This Product/Business literally sells itself.” “Everyone wants it.” -Come on people, nothing sells itself, don’t make people think that they won’t have to learn new skills and figure out how to communicate well. Everything in life is sales
4. “All you have to do is talk to the people around you to be successful” or “all you have to do is get leads online.” -You have to make prospects aware that although there is a standard mode of operation, you have to do what works best for YOU. They need to know this…
5. “Ours is the best Company/Deal/Product/Compensation Plan that has ever existed on planet earth.” -Big no-no. Immediately people will think the EXACT OPPOSITE of this statement, putting a heavy amount of doubt in their minds that will be very hard to remove…
Smart prospects will get immediately turned off by any of these. And the people that do jump in will quit before month 3. I’m talking from experience here. You do not want to attract these types of people. You know the type…they watch the late night infomercials with the high-school dropout saying use his system to buy up government houses, he’s only asking for 3 easy payments of $333.33! We don’t want people who believe in get rich quick schemes, they simply do not exist.
Ask the hard questions. Tell the truth even if it doesn’t sound as appealing. You may just sponsor more people…again, I’m talking from experience.
Cheers,
Clay R Eudaly

Hey Clay,
A really solid piece of content….each of the points you make is sooo true and far too commonly heard. At least, I certainly heard them all when I first got started, and fell for them too, I might add. I truly appreciate the path of high integrity that is being followed by marketers such as yourself!
Thanks for being out there always striving to do the right thing!
